The Finnish-American Folk Festival presents:

Naselle, Washington

The Finnish American Folk Festival of Naselle is pleased to welcome . . .

Jim Phipps

Jim Phipps received a PhD in Oceanography from Oregon State University and spent most of his career teaching at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, Washington. He is presently retired.

His major research effort was on coastal sediments until, about 25 years ago, he met Brian Atwater, who introduced him to the effects of great subduction zone earthquakes on the coast of southwest Washington and northwest Oregon. Ever since then, that has been his passion.

Most recently he has been studying the effect of such earthquakes on the coastline using ground-penetrating radar. His presentation on Friday is Earthquakes and Tsunamis in SW Coastal Washington.
