Please welcome back the . . . Katrilli DancersKatrilli is a Finnish dance group dedicated to enjoyment and preservation of Finnish folk dancing, music and traditions. Some first danced with Tanhuajat Finnish Folkdancers or La-Pe-Ke-Ko. Katrilli formed independently in 1971. Their repertoire includes both traditional and choreographed dances. They often tell stories or act out scenes of Finnish life. Many of their dances are from Karelia and they also dance the Mazurka which they learned from Finnish dancers whom they hosted FFUSA 99. Some dancers are Finnish; others are Finns by association. For example, Bob Larson is a Swedish Finn and married to Patty who is part Puerto-Rican. He is familiar with folk dancing, she with ballroom dancing — yet they blend it all together, accompanied by live music. Katrilli performs throughout the Northwest at celebrations of the Kalevala, Midsummer and Yule fest. They also often dance at the Northwest Folklife Festival, FinnFest USA, Canadian Grand Festivals, the Astoria Scandinavian Midsummer Festival and is a faithful and enthusiastic group returning to our festival once more.
